Habits that protect little teeth

Most decay in children can be prevented with a few simple routines at home.

  • Brush twice a day with a rice-grain smear of fluoride toothpaste (a pea-sized amount from age 3).
  • Help with brushing until your child can tie their own shoelaces.
  • Keep sweets and juice to mealtimes, and no milk bottle in bed.
  • Book a check-up every six months, and sooner if a tooth hurts or looks dark.

Questions parents ask

When should my child first see a dentist?

By their first birthday, or when the first tooth appears. Early visits are short, playful and mostly about habits.

Do milk teeth really matter?

Yes. They hold space for adult teeth, help with chewing and speech, and decay in them can hurt.

What if my child is scared?

We go slowly, explain everything in simple words and never force treatment. Many children just sit and watch on the first visit.

Booking for your child?

Choose a time when they’re usually fresh — mornings work well for little ones.
